A Spiritual Hub for Pilgrims and Travelers Alike

For centuries, Antipolo Church has been a beacon for pilgrims making their way to one of the country’s most revered Marian shrines. Known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, this church houses the miraculous statue of the Nuestra SeƱora de la Paz y Buen Viaje, which was brought to the Philippines from Mexico in 1626. The statue is credited with protecting travelers on their perilous sea voyages between the Philippines and Mexico. Visitors come from all corners of the country—whether by foot, car, or jeepney—to offer prayers and seek blessings for safe travels. It’s not just about the devout faithful; tourists and locals alike come to admire the church’s serene beauty and connect with the Filipino spirit of faith, resilience, and community.

Immerse in History and Faith

Antipolo Church is not just a religious site; it’s a living testament to Philippine history. Originally constructed in 1632 by the Jesuits, the church has withstood fires, earthquakes, and the ravages of war. The image of Our Lady has witnessed the development of the area from a humble settlement to a bustling pilgrimage site. The 1945 bombings during World War II left the church in ruins, but through the tireless efforts of the Filipino people, it was rebuilt in 1954. Today, the church’s modernist architecture—designed by National Artist for Architecture Jose Ma. Zaragoza—seamlessly blends with the remnants of its colonial past. The dome and simple yet elegant interiors create a calming atmosphere for those seeking solace or simply wishing to take in the beauty of the sacred space.

A Feast for the Senses: What to See and Do Around Antipolo Church

While the church is the focal point of your visit, the area surrounding it offers a variety of attractions that will enrich your experience. If you want to explore further, the Antipolo Cathedral Museum is located right next to the church, showcasing religious artifacts, historical items, and more about the church’s fascinating past. It’s the perfect stop to gain a deeper understanding of the shrine’s significance to both Filipino culture and Catholicism. The museum also houses relics from the time of Spanish colonization, making it a rich educational experience for history enthusiasts.

Just a short walk from the church, you’ll find the Antipolo View Deck, where you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the city and its surrounding landscapes. On a clear day, the distant skyline of Metro Manila is visible in the distance, making it an ideal spot for photos. No visit to Antipolo would be complete without trying some of the area’s local delicacies. Around the church, you’ll find food vendors selling suman (sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves) and kasoy (sweetened cashew nuts), both of which are famous in the area. You can easily grab a snack as you explore the vibrant surroundings.

If you love nature, you should also check out Hinulugang Taktak National Park, which is just a short drive away from the church. This national park is home to a beautiful waterfall, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the church area. It’s a great place for a relaxing picnic or a quiet afternoon enjoying the soothing sounds of the cascading water. Around the church, there are plenty of shops selling religious items, souvenirs, and locally crafted goods. Whether you’re looking for rosaries, candles, or unique keepsakes, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to take home something meaningful to remember your trip by.

Plan Your Pilgrimage or Getaway to Antipolo Church

Whether you’re planning a spiritual pilgrimage or just a relaxing weekend getaway, Antipolo Church is an ideal destination. The church welcomes visitors throughout the year, but it’s especially popular during the Holy Week and in May, when the Maytime Pilgrimage takes place. If you prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting during the weekdays, when the church is less crowded. Antipolo is easily accessible from Metro Manila. If you’re driving, the journey takes about an hour depending on traffic. The roads leading to the church are well-maintained, and there’s plenty of parking around the area. For those relying on public transport, jeepneys, buses, and vans regularly make the trip from various parts of Metro Manila.
