A festival created to appreciate all the Baguio City’s beautiful floras and a symbol of strength and recovery from the devastation of the 1990 Luzon earthquake, the Panagbenga (formerly called Baguio Flower Festival) is a month-long annual flower festival held every February which occurs in Baguio City, Philippines.

The term “Panagbenga” comes from a Kankanaey origin, meaning “season of blooming”. It reflects the history, traditions and values of Baguio and the Cordilleras. The festival features floats that are nearly covered with varied flowers often complementing with the float’s intricate designs unlike those used in Pasadena’s Rose Parade, which only uses roses but that isn’t all of it; as just like other festival groups, the Panagbenga aims to be the “Best Festival” in the Philippines, and so the festival also includes street dancing, specifically an Ibaloi dance that came from the Cordilleras (Igorots), presented by dancers clad in flower-inspired costumes, Tons of activities were also exhibited on the duration of the month but the most crowd-grabbing events are within the last week of the festival as well as closing ceremonies at night of the last day.

Moreover, this is a festival worth attending to as not only you’d enjoy and witness a unique event, but it is also sure to colour your day through culture and art.
