Calaca Church: Saint Raphael’s Sacred Home in Calaca
Calaca Church, formally the Saint Raphael the Archangel Parish Church, was established shortly after the founding of Calaca on May 10, 1835. By 1836, local leaders and parishioners had begun planning a permanent parish dedicated to Saint Raphael the Archangel, the town’s patron saint. Worship initially occurred in a simple chapel made from bamboo and nipa, reflecting the humble beginnings of this spiritual community. The initiative for a stone structure was led by Fr. Basilio Vizconde, the first parish priest appointed by the Archbishop of Manila in 1837.
