Lingayen Cathedral

Originally named Los Tres Reyes or Three Kings Cathedral, this architectural marvel was erected in the year 1616. What distinguishes it is the Oriental Pagoda-like belfry tower, standing at an impressive height of about 45 yards, making it one of the most noteworthy structures in Pangasinan.

Managed by the Dominican Order until the Filipino uprising against the Spaniards in 1898, the Lingayen Cathedral saw a transition to Filipino priests from 1900 to June 1933. During this time, the church operated smoothly without any significant issues.

However, peace was disrupted on January 9, 1945, when American forces landed on Lingayen beach. Bombs rained down on Poblacion, resulting in the partial destruction of the Lingayen Cathedral and the unfortunate fall of its century-old bells.

In the aftermath, the century-old bells were exhibited outside the cathedral alongside other ruined structures like the Bishop’s palace. Eventually, these bells were replaced with more durable ones, and extensive efforts were undertaken to reconstruct the Lingayen Cathedral and other affected buildings. Today, the church stands proudly, a testament to its resilience and enduring significance.
