Architectural Splendor

Constructed during the Spanish colonial period, the church’s foundations were laid in the early 19th century, with its initial structure completed in 1811. The current building reflects renovations from the 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing a blend of traditional Spanish and colonial influences. The architectural style mirrors a lavish Baroque character, possibly influenced by Mexican design, as seen in its elaborate decorations. Interestingly, local rumor suggests that Chinese artisans may have contributed to its construction, hinted at by the presence of two lion sculptures at the entrance.

One of the church’s most striking features is its Baroque façade, characterized by intricate stone carvings and robust, classical columns. The grand entrance is adorned with detailed sculptures that reflect the artistry and craftsmanship of the era. Inside, the church’s interior is equally impressive, with high vaulted ceilings, ornate chandeliers, and beautifully painted frescoes that add to its spiritual ambiance. Its bell tower, considered among the finest, adds an extra layer of charm to the church’s overall appearance.
