Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines, was known for its cool mountain air, pine-lined streets, and vibrant cultural scene. While its scenic spots and fresh produce markets continued to draw thousands each year, the city was also becoming a thriving hub for arts and cultural experiences. This season, visitors engaged with a unique celebration of indigenous heritage and contemporary creativity at Gallery 2600, located within the Baguio Convention Center, home to the Kasiyana “All Will Be Well” Art Exhibit.

Kasiyana “All Will Be Well” as Part of the Ibagiw Festival

The exhibit was part of the Ibagiw Festival, Baguio City’s month-long celebration of art, crafts, and local talent organized by the Creative Baguio City Council (CBCC). Its name came from bagiw, the Ibaloi word for moss, reflecting something deeply rooted in Baguio. Since the city’s recognition as a UNESCO Creative City in 2017, the festival had grown into an annual platform for weaving, woodwork, visual arts, and homegrown stories.

The 2025 theme, “Traditions Rooted, Futures Routed,” officially launched on November 14 at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center with a ceremonial ritual. According to Ms. Marie Venus Tan, Co-Chair of CBCC, tradition offered a base for self-expression, allowing artists and participants to leave their mark while celebrating Baguio’s creative identity. By being part of the Ibagiw Festival, the Kasiyana exhibit aligned itself with the city’s broader mission to promote cultural heritage, community artistry, and local innovation, making it one of the highlights of Baguio’s creative calendar.

Experience the Spirit of Kasiyana

At the heart of the exhibit was the Kankanaey term Kasiyana, translating to “All will be well.” The phrase carried the values of hope, resilience, and communal support — qualities deeply woven into the Cordillera indigenous communities. The exhibit translated these cultural ideals into vibrant visual narratives, where every brushstroke and sculpture told a story of healing, optimism, and solidarity.

Visitors encountered a wide collection of works from over 20 artists of different ages and backgrounds. From delicate sketches by children to bold statements from seasoned creators, the exhibit captured the energetic range of Baguio’s contemporary and indigenous art scene.

Participate in Community-Centered Art

Instead of simply observing, guests took part in the creative process through the Kasiyana Community Painting. This shared activity invited visitors to add their own touches to a large communal canvas. It reinforced the exhibit’s message that hope, healing, and cultural expression grow stronger when shared within the community.

Art and Healing Unite at the Kasiyana Exhibit

The exhibit was brought to life in collaboration with Art Heals, an initiative using creativity as a tool for emotional well-being, social inclusion, and community support. With this approach woven in, the gallery became a space where culture, art, and communal healing met.

Guests saw artworks from artists of all ages, including children and emerging talents — reflecting the inclusivity and hope at the core of Kasiyana. The Kasiyana Community Painting allowed guests to contribute directly, turning each visit into a hands-on moment where art became a shared language of resilience and connection. This partnership transformed the exhibit into a heartfelt tourism destination where travelers experienced the healing power of creativity.

Artistic Voices and Inclusion at the Kasiyana Exhibit

The exhibit also highlighted its collaboration with the Autism Hearts Foundation, an organization dedicated to uplifting individuals on the autism spectrum through creative expression. This partnership added a unique layer to the collection, featuring pieces that showcased the talent, imagination, and distinct perspectives of neurodiverse artists.
