It is undeniable that the Malagonlong Bridge has a special place in Filipino history. This bridge is one of the oldest, and longest, bridges constructed during the Spanish era and has since been officially recognized as a National Culture Treasure. Located in the city of Tayabas in Quezon Province, the Malagonlong Bridge is among the 11 historical bridges that bear witness to the country’s unique past.

Crossing the placid waters of the Tayabas River, this aged bridge is a symbol of courage and resilience, having endured natural disasters and wars that shook the Philippines’ soil. Despite its fragility, the bridge is still standing strong centuries after its construction.

Spanning the Dumaca River, it connects Barangay Mateuna and Lakawan to Tayabas on its eastern side. Built between 1840 and 1850, this bridge was constructed under the authority of Franciscan priest Fray Antonio Mateos. It’s said that an estimated 100,000 adobe blocks were used in its construction and it has an impressive length of 445 feet (136 meters).
