  • San Pablo City, Laguna
Amid the verdant paths of Patis Tito Garden Café in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Verbena Gallery emerges quietly yet distinctively, inviting visitors into a space where art and nature coexist. The gallery, opened in 2025 by Filipino fashion and culture figure Patis Pamintuan Tesoro, is more than a display of works — it is a living dialogue between creativity, heritage, and environment. Walking through flowering plants and shaded garden paths, one encounters paintings and mixed-media pieces that resonate with local narratives and botanical inspiration. For travelers exploring San Pablo City, Verbena Gallery offers a layered experience: sensory encounters with Filipino cuisine at the café, reflective garden strolls, and an intimate immersion in regional art. Its boutique scale and community-centered approach create a quieter, more contemplative alternative to larger venues, situating visitors within both the personal vision of Tesoro and the broader cultural rhythm of Laguna’s growing art tourism scene.

A Creative Corner in San Pablo

Verbena Gallery is tucked inside the lush compound of Patis Tito Garden Café, a space long cultivated by Patis Pamintuan Tesoro. Emerging in 2025, it transforms a café garden into an intimate hub for regional artists and visitors alike. Unlike conventional galleries, Verbena Gallery’s design allows artwork to converse with the garden itself, from flowering verbena to shaded walkways, merging the visual and natural in ways that encourage lingering and observation.

Blossoms of Artistic Vision

The gallery’s name, “Verbena,” captures both the fragrant garden setting and the idea of creative blossoming. Its exhibitions often reflect local cultural narratives, including the thematic showcase “Hinabing Gunita, Ipinintang Diwa,” which highlighted Tesoro’s artistic philosophy alongside contributions from the Progressive Artists Society of the Philippines. In this setting, Filipino identity, heritage motifs, and botanical inspiration find form in paintings, mixed-media installations, and interpretive art pieces, offering travelers a tangible encounter with the region’s cultural fabric.

Garden and Gallery in Dialogue

Visitors move seamlessly between indoor spaces and open-air paths, experiencing the garden as both muse and context. Fragrant herbs, flowering plants, and the heritage-inspired architecture of Patis Tito Garden create an ambiance that blends art salon, creative retreat, and reflective cultural space. Photography enthusiasts and casual visitors alike find the setting ideal for capturing moments where nature and artistic expression intersect naturally.

Curated Experiences for Visitors

The gallery complements the café’s offerings, where traditional Filipino dishes slow-cooked in clay pots introduce culinary narratives alongside visual ones. Creative garden walks allow guests to engage with indigenous and ornamental plants while observing art installations that invite reflection and dialogue. Within the larger framework of San Pablo City’s cultural initiatives — including ARTSTRAVAGANZA and national arts month observances — Verbena Gallery contributes an intimate, boutique-scale perspective that contrasts with larger city galleries like Casa San Pablo and Komikero Komiks Museum.

Inside the Gallery and Café: A Rich Tapestry of Art and Heritage

The interior of the space feels like stepping into a thoughtfully composed chapter of Filipino creative life, where every surface tells its own story. Within Patis Tito Garden Café and the connected Verbena Gallery, walls are decorated with large, expressive paintings — some depicting local figures dressed in traditional Filipino attire — that reflect both the owner’s artistic roots and the region’s cultural imagery.

Alongside these works, antique objects, folk crafts, and hand‑carved wooden accents punctuate the setting, creating a visual rhythm that’s both warm and curious. Wooden furniture and open latticework, often crafted by local artisans, sit comfortably beside vintage pieces and decorative finds rescued from heritage homes, giving the interior a layered feel of past and present. Capiz windows, colored glass panels, and artisanal fabrics accentuate the space, while smaller art pieces, carvings, and knickknacks collected over time bring texture and character to every corner. This blend of art, antiques, and craftsmanship turns the interior into more than just a viewing space — it becomes a lived experience that mirrors the garden exterior and celebrates a deep appreciation for Filipino cultural tradition.
