A Church Born from Conflict, Standing for Peace
Here’s the thing—this parish wasn’t built during a time of calm. It was founded in 1942, during the height of World War II. As bombs fell over Manila and the world held its breath, the Archdiocese of Manila saw the need for a spiritual refuge within the UST campus. It was officially established on March 21, 1942, and just weeks later, it was formally inaugurated.
Why does that matter? Because while everything outside was crumbling, this chapel became a sanctuary—for students, faculty, and evacuees. And today, it still welcomes everyone, whether you’re a local, a pilgrim, or a traveler looking for a moment of quiet.
Art Deco Beauty in the Middle of Campus
Architecturally speaking, this church is not your typical Baroque-style Filipino church. Designed by Fernando H. Ocampo Sr., the same mind behind the post-war reconstruction of the Manila Cathedral, the chapel is part of UST’s Central Seminary building—a declared National Cultural Treasure.
